"I'm pretty careful about charity projects now, be they benefit shows or licensing my masters, because so many of them are bull. Sometimes only 20% of what you spend actually gets to the charity. It drives me crazy to see singers saying they're donating everything, when I know they've just charged the organization for their band salaries, rehearsal time, makeup person and all that. When we decided to form an actual, IRS-approved foundation, I promised myself it would never be run like that. If a publisher or writer isn't willing to donate their royalties for an Unreleased CD, we don't use that song. If I need a tour manager at a Living Room Concert, I pick up the cost. When we say '100% of this item goes to the Foundation, we really mean it!"
