PEARL FOUNDATION - LIVING ROOM CONCERT

LIVING ROOM CONCERT

Janis began offering private shows for up to 40 people in 1998, when the first Pearl Foundation auction occurred. The shows were held in the donor's living room; each lasted about two hours, with Janis greeting guests as they arrived, and staying after to pose for photos, sign merchandise, and chat with the participants. The first Living Room Concerts required a $5,000 donation to the Pearl Foundation. When she ceased doing them, in 2019, they were up to $15,000, and donors also paid all expenses (flights, hotels staff) so the entire "fee" could go to the Foundation.

Unfortunately, with the advent of COVID-19, living room concerts were closed. Given that Janis is embarking on her last North American tour, there are no plans to hold any more.

Here's what Janis had to say about to 30+ LRC's she did all over the world: I loved doing these – a chance to play the way I grew up performing, just me and a guitar sitting around a living room. Occasionally, someone would join in with another instrument or vocal. People got to ask questions, I got to try out new songs, and it felt very much like a one-on-one concert. I even made a few new friends here and there, and of course, raised a lot of funds for scholarships. Win-win all around!
